Katie & Scott | A Relaxed Summer Wedding at Syrencot
A Wedding Where Everyone Had Permission to Have Fun
Some weddings are packed with traditions, carefully planned timelines and endless formalities.
Katie and Scott's wasn't one of them.
From the moment I arrived at Syrencot, it was obvious this day was about enjoying every minute with the people who mattered most. There was no pressure to squeeze in endless traditions or spend hours posing for photographs. Instead, they wanted a relaxed celebration where everyone could laugh, catch up and simply enjoy being together.
Sometimes, those are the very best weddings.
Getting Ready and One Very Proud Dad
The morning began in the beautiful bridal preparation rooms at Syrencot, one of my favourite places to photograph. The rooms are filled with natural light, creating the perfect setting for those quiet moments before everything begins.
One of my favourite photographs from the entire day happened before Katie had even left for the ceremony.
Her dad walked into the room and saw his daughter in her wedding dress for the very first time.
The smile on his face said everything.
There were no staged reactions or dramatic prompts—just a proud father seeing his little girl ready to get married. Moments like these can't be recreated, and they're exactly why I love photographing weddings in a documentary style.
A Beautiful Ceremony
Syrencot has one of the most elegant ceremony spaces in Wiltshire, and it never disappoints.
As Katie walked down the aisle with her dad, Scott's expression completely changed the moment he saw her. It only lasted a few seconds, but those are often the photographs couples treasure the most years later.
After exchanging their vows, they stepped outside to huge cheers from family and friends before sharing a kiss surrounded by applause. It wasn't just a photograph of the two of them—it was a photograph of everyone celebrating with them.
Making the Most of a Beautiful Summer's Day
The weather couldn't have been much brighter.
Rather than asking everyone to stand in harsh midday sunshine for the family photographs, we found a beautiful shaded area within the gardens. It kept everyone comfortable and produced much softer, more flattering light.
Once the family photographs were finished, we spent a few relaxed minutes wandering the grounds before Katie and Scott headed straight back to their guests.
That's always my aim. Capture some beautiful portraits without taking couples away from their wedding for half an hour.
Not Your Typical Group Photographs
One thing I loved about Katie and Scott was that they didn't take themselves too seriously.
Yes, we captured all the important family photographs.
Then it was time to have some fun.
The full group photograph quickly became organised chaos in the best possible way. Children were hanging upside down, guests were pulling funny faces, and everyone brought their own personality into the picture.
The bridal party were no different.
Within minutes people were climbing onto walls, sitting on shoulders and making each other laugh. Nothing was forced or over-directed—it was simply a group of friends enjoying one of the biggest days of Katie and Scott's lives.
Those are always the photographs people remember.
Relaxed From Start to Finish
The whole day had such an easy-going atmosphere.
Guests spent the afternoon chatting in the gardens, enjoying drinks in the sunshine and catching up with family they hadn't seen for years.
Nothing ever felt rushed.
Nobody was constantly checking the time.
Katie and Scott simply enjoyed being together, and that's exactly how weddings should be.
Speeches, Dancing and the Perfect Ending
As everyone gathered for the speeches, the room was full of smiles, laughter and the occasional tear. Looking around the room, every table was reacting differently—some laughing out loud, others quietly taking everything in. Those are the moments I love capturing because they tell the story of the people, not just the timeline of the day.
As evening arrived, Katie and Scott shared their first dance beneath the beautiful circular lights inside Syrencot before inviting everyone onto the dance floor.
Before long, friends and bridesmaids had completely taken over. Shoes were forgotten, people were singing at the top of their voices, and the dance floor stayed full right until the end of the night.
It was the perfect finish to a wedding that had been filled with laughter from beginning to end.
Why I Photograph Weddings This Way
If you've looked through this gallery, you'll probably notice something.
Very few people are looking at the camera.
That's because around 95% of these photographs were captured completely naturally, without me stopping the day or asking people to pose.
The smiles aren't prompted.
The laughter isn't repeated.
The hugs aren't staged.
They're simply real moments, captured exactly as they happened.
Of course, we'll always take the family photographs you've asked for, and I'll spend a few relaxed minutes creating some beautiful portraits of the two of you. But the rest of the day belongs to you.
My job isn't to direct your wedding.
It's to quietly observe it.
Because years from now, I don't want you to remember standing in front of a camera.
I want you to remember your dad's smile when he first saw you, your partner's face as you walked down the aisle, your friends laughing together, and the dance floor when everyone forgot about being adults and simply enjoyed the party.
That's what documentary wedding photography is all about.
If you're planning your wedding at Syrencot or anywhere across Wiltshire, and you're looking for natural, relaxed photography that captures the real story of your day, I'd love to be part of it.
